Oakland has too many! And therefore too many principals, too many administrators...too many janitors fgs. Close and consolidate schools, shed unnecessary positions and use the savings to fund teacher pay raises. It's yet another instance of public employee unions protecting themselves at the expense of the taxpayer - AND the children. Disgusting.Patrick M. This in addition to the Gross Receipts Tax on all rent collected... even if the property doesn't cash flow. Should the abstract concept of "fairness" ever be considered... then parcel or per unit taxes should be completely passed through to tenants paying less than market rent due to interference by the city. Bottom line: Oakland already taxes too much and has nothing to show for it.mark rossnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156813738805135259.post-16918030986789984962010-11-04T12:00:58.000-07:002010-11-04T12:00:58.000-07:00Patrick, Thanks for your comment. All of those were on a per-dwelling basis, not per-parcel.

Maybe the school district legally cannot make its taxes per-dwelling, but the city can? If so, that's a silly law.TheBosshttp://www.eastbayconservative.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2156813738805135259.post-33356744768881880502010-11-04T08:59:13.000-07:002010-11-04T08:59:13.000-07:00I was under the impression that parcel taxes could...I was under the impression that parcel taxes could be collected under only two methods: per parcel and at a % rate per square foot. The second is fairer, though still regressive. Of course the inept City of Oakland wouldn't be able to implement something that required simple mathematics.Patrick M. Mitchellnoreply@blogger.com
